1. Text or content of the page: Text of a web page contains the keywords, what is the distribution of these keywords and how often they appear on the page (keyword density) are one of those important information that search engine crawlers gather about the page. The keywords density and its distributions decides how high your website or page appears in the search results. It is very important that a content /text shall contain those keywords that a visitor is most likely to search in a search engine. Like if a person wants to know about a Volkswagon Jetta car, so for him the most likely keyword will be “car volkswagon jetta”. So search engine will bring that webpages in top listing which a good distribution and keyword density of the phrase ” car volkswagon jetta’. This is easy, but if suppose there are 100 pages made on this keyword then which page will appear higher? this will be decided on other page elements of the page. But the step one for on-page optimization if for sure writing a content/ text focusing on keyword distribution and keyword density.
2. HTML Tags on the page: For search engine optimization, there are two tags that is more important than all other tags, we normally call it meta tags and HTML tags. Actually speaking meta tags are a part of HTML tags but as they have become so popular so a lay man treats meta tags as a separate entity than HTML tags. Meta tags are of two types, one is called meta description and other is called meta keyword. Meta keyword tag is used to list the keywords of that content /test. It is a way of making a search engine crawler know about the keyword of a page.

3. Links: Links pointing back to a web page is another important SEO tool available with the webmasters for on-page optimization.
4. Polularity of a webpage now this is tricky: one might say that when they are doing SEO the objective is to gain popularity and audience. If they had popularity they would not have done SEO. But search engine thinks like this and we have to deal with this in our life. Gaining popularity by news letters, advertising, email announcements are ways if increasing popularity. May be the webmaster need to spend some bucks to gain popularity.
